Social event

UMAP 2013 social event will be held in Tivoli, near Rome.

It will start with a guided tour in English of Villa Adriana (video), an exceptional complex of ancient Roman buildings created in the 2nd century A.D. by the Roman emperor Hadrian and will conclude with a banquet at the restaurant “La Tenuta di Rocca Bruna” (website in Italian; video).

Excursion

During your visit of Villa Adriana You will have the opportunity also to visit the outstanding exhibition: “Marguerite Yourcenar – Adriano, antiquity imagined”. The exhibition is dedicated to the Franco-Belgian writer Marguerite Yourcenar (1903-1987), the author who, with her masterpiece “Memoirs of Hadrian”, helped more than anyone to make the Tivoli residence of emperor Hadrian famous the world over.

The exhibition documents the creative process underlying the novel. The halls of the Antiquarium are lined with Yourcenar‘s correspondence, vintage photographs, scultures and engravings offering a rare glimpse into the work of a writer who sought to bring ancient Rome to life.

Transfer is ensured by conference buses in both outward and return journeys to Rome.
