Conference Venue


PONTIFICIA UNIVERSITÀ URBANIANA
Official Entrance: Via Urbano VIII

The conference will be held at the Pontificia Università Urbaniana, one of the universities belonging to the Catholic Church, which is located in the center of the city, on the top of a small hill overlooking St. Peter's.
The Sistine Chapel and Vatican Museums, as well as many other historical monuments and typical old city districts, are within a short walking distance.
The site consists of several antique buildings within a wonderful park, from which it feels that one can almost touch Michelangelo's dome or Bernini's Colonnade.

How to Reach Pontificia Universita' Urbaniana
The connection to and from the Pontificia Università Urbaniana is assured by a shuttle service to and from every Hotel.
In addition, public transport can be utilised:
  • By underground: Underground Linea "A" - stop OTTAVIANO/SAN PIETRO, then:
    • by walking: through via Ottaviano, Piazza Risorgimento, San Pietro, Borgo S. Spirito, via dei Penitenzieri, Piazza della Rovere, via del Gianicolo, via Urbano VIII (30 min. from via Ottaviano);
    • by bus: from Piazza Risorgimento take bus n° 23 and get off at Piazza della Rovere; then walk through via del Gianicolo and via Urbano VIII (5 min. from Piazza della Rovere);
  • By bus:
    • n° 64 from Termini Railway Station to Lungo Tevere in Sassia (Ospedale Santo Spirito); then walk through Piazza della Rovere, via del Gianicolo, via Urbano VIII (5 min. from Lungo Tevere in Sassia);
    • n° 870 from Principe Amedeo d'Aosta bridge directly to the official entrance of the conference venue located in Via Urbano VIII.

During the Conference

Student Volunteers
Student volunteers are a great source of information about the Conference and are a pleasure to meet. You can identify Student Volunteers by the white VLDB2001 student volunteer T-shirts.

Smoking Policy
VLDB 2001 is smoke-free. There are easily-accessible outdoor areas at the conference side where smoking will be permitted.

Coffee-Point
Regular coffee is served all day and is included in registration. There are three coffee-points located throughout the conference venue where you can take a break.

Lunches
Lunches are included in the registration fee. Lunches will be served in the self-service Gianicolo, located near the conference building and accessible by a short walk.

Badge
Each badge contains the name and affiliation of the badge holder. Admission to conference venue and events is by badge only. If you lose your badge, please go to the Help Desk for a replacement.

Bank
A mobile service branch of the Banca Nazionale del Lavoro will be located in the Registration Area.

Language
English is the official language of the Conference.

Speaker Ready Room
A functional Speaker Ready Room will be in operation throughout the Conference for all speakers to test and run through their presentations on the equipment they will use during their session.

The desk for on-site workshop and conference registration is located in the Registration Area and will be open as follows:

Messages
Messages can be left at the Help Desk, and will be posted on the conference notice board in the Registration Area.

Conversation Area
There is an outdoor area where delegates can meet and chat during the whole conference.

Photographer
A professional photographer will be present at the conference opening and at the various social events. The photographs will be on sale during conference hours at the Help Desk.

Email
A number of PCs will be provided which you may use to send and receive email. These are located in the Internet room and are available throughout the Conference.

DHL Desk
A worldwide express service to mail your proceedings is available during Help Desk opening hours in the Registration Area.
