----------------------------------------------------------------------------- The joys and sorrows of teaching and developing apps for mobile devices, or: how to become a workaholic, earn no money, and live happily ever after. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Davide Martinenghi Politecnico di Milano ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mercoledi' 2 luglio 2014 - Ore 16:30 Sala Riunioni Dipartimento di Ingegneria - Sezione di Informatica e Automazione Universita' Roma Tre Via Vasca Navale, 79 - 00146 Roma ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Apps are becoming the new mantra of modern humankind: pervasive, personalized, addictive, quickly changing, they are at the core of devices that fit our pockets and purses. Yet, apps are an untamed beast that no one seems to be able to fully master. In this talk, I will give an account of my personal experience as an amateur developer who tried the indie way and taught how-tos, best practices and whatnots to both university students and professional developers. As a developer, I will try to describe the learning curve needed to go mobile, the main routes to market, the risks and opportunities, and the lifecycle of an app. I will warn you of the risk of going astray in a world offering a plethora of different and ever-changing devices, platforms, languages and operating systems. As a teacher, I will summarize the dos and don’ts I experienced with the first edition of the “Mobile Applications” course at my university. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
